The aim of this study was to estimate the amount and species composition of discards in bottom trawl fisheries in the Bosif fishing ground in the coastal waters of Khuzestan. Furthermore, the biological parameters of discarded species were assessed. Specimens were collected from commercial catch data of trawl vessels in three seasons, autumn and winter 2017 and summer 2018. The results showed that discarded samples included 33 species from 28 families. Orangefin Pony fish and striped piggy species were the most frequent species in this study. The results also showed that the mean length of most of the discards species was below 30 centimeters. The amount of discards per unit of catching effort was 57.33±9.87, 27.50±16.64 and 32.33±7.50 in the autumn, winter and summer seasons, respectively. The catch per surface area in autumn, winter and summer were 2.77 ± 0.064, 0. 73 ±0.39 and 1.73 ± 0.44 kg/nm2, respectively. The results showed that CPUE and CPUA in winter were significantly higher than those in autumn and summer (p<0.05). In general, the results of this study represent high fishing pressure on ecologically important species in Bosif fishing ground especially in their critical life cycle which may affect local ecosystem structure and function in future.

In this study, the effects of different dietary protein and salinity levels on cellular parameters of hemolymph in white leg shrimp (as a part of immune system) of the white leg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) juvenile were studied. The number of 350 shrimps with the average weight of 5.55±0.18 g and length of 8.81±0.15 cm were distributed randomly in 27 ten tones (length: 600 cm, width: 170 cm and height: 100 cm) concrete tanks. A 3×3 factorial experimental including three levels of salinity (0-3, 12-15 and 32-35 ppt) and three dietary protein levels (25, 35 and 45%). Experimental shrimps were fed to satiation 4 times a day throughout the experimental 56 days. According to the results cellular parameters like: total hemocytes count (THC) and differential hemocyte count (DHC) were analysed and recorded. The dietary protein levels 35% and salinity of 32-35 ppt had direct positive impact on THC and granular cells (GC). Although the semi granular poisonous cells have been decreased with the increase in both of the experimental variables (P≤ 0/05) and no effected on the agranular cells. So based on the results of this study, the protein diet with the 35% is suggested for L. vannamei. Taking in to consideration the results of the study we can say the best water salinity for culture of this species is 32-35 ppt.

For study of changes in energy metabolism of brain in rainbow trout during early life stages, some samples were collected from fish larvae and fingerlings with initial weight 1.35±0.15 during 7 months. Sample collection was randomly made in 12 stages (7 samples per every 8 days, 3 samples per every 2 weeks and 2 samples every one month). Brain tissue was dissected and transferred to nitrogen tank before analysis. The brain tissues were homogenized and the supernatant was adjusted to measurement of glycogen, glucose, lactate, lactate dehydrogenase, pyruvate kinase and glucose-6- phosphatase. Results revealed statistically changes in the metabolites during the sampling, so, glycogen and lactate concentration showed an increasing trend by increasing in fish age, but glucose concentration did not follow this trend. The minimum glucose concentration in brain tissue was observed in seventh stage of sampling. Concentration of metabolism enzymes was showed fluctuations and increasing trend during sampling. Finally, it is proposed that environmental and nutritional factors and different requirement of fish to energy in different stages of life may be effective on metabolites concentrations and metabolism enzymes activity.

In the recent decades, using of herbs and herbal extracts as growth promoters and immunostimulants in aquaculture has been increased. In the current study, effects of Ginger (Zingiber officinale) extract on hematological and some serological parameters and growth performance of Barbus sharpeyi (Gunther, 1874( fingerlings were studied. Four levels of ginger extract including 0 (Control group), 0.1, 0.5 and 1 per cent were added to basic diet. Fish were fed twice a day as 3 per cent of body weight for 8 weeks. At the end of the experimental period, biometry was performed and blood samples were collected from caudal vein. The results have shown that administration of ginger extract supplemented diets did not significantly affect growth indexes (WG and SGR) (p ≥ 0.05). On the other hand, different levels of ginger extract could significantly increase WBC count, hematocrit and some hematological parameters. Also, Serum lysozyme activity and serum total protein and albumin were significantly increased after using ginger extract (p ≤ 0.05). based on the results obtained from this study, ginger extract may be used as a growth promoter and immunostimulant in Barbus sharpeyi.

A feeding trial was carried out where, three protein concentrations [45%, 55% and 65%) crude protein (CP)] and three dietary energy concentrations [20, 22and 24 kj g-1 crude energy (CE)] were fed to 540 yellowfin seabreams (Acanthopagrus latus ) fingerlings to establish the protein and energy requirement for this species. 9 treatments with triplicate groups of 20 fish each (initial weight 12g) were stocked in 300-L fiberglass tanks and fed twice a day to apparent satiation. After 8 weeks, the survival rate was not dependent on the dietary treatments, but average fish weight gain (AWG), specific growth rate (SGR) and feed efficiency ratio (FER) were significantly affected by dietary protein (P<0.05). Protein retention (PR) were increased by dietary energy level (P<0.05). Feed efficiency ratio, PER and Hepatosomatic Index (HIS) was not affected by dietary protein and energy concentrations (P>0.05). At same protein level, PER, PR increased with the increase in energy levels from 20 to24 Kj g-1. Carcass moisture and ash contents were significantly affected by dietary protein and energy levels (P<0.05) but carcass protein was not significantly affected by dietary protein and dietary energy levels (P>0.05) .With increase dietary energy, carcass fat content was increased from 20 to 24 Kj g-1. The results indicate that the optimum dietary protein and energy levels for growth of juvenile yellowfin seabream are 56. 20 – 57 . 47g in Kg-1diet and 21.9-24.56Kj in gr diet and 23.15-25.95mgr kg-1 ,respectively

Successful management of sturgeon population requires knowledge of stock composition with regard to sex and gonadic stage. Measurement of sex steroid concentration has proven to be a reliable and less invasive method in compare to convention methods. In this study we have examined the possible role of plasma testosterone (T), estradiol (E2), progesterone (P), cortisol (C) and morphometric parameters as indicators of sex and stage of gonadal development in immature (4-5 years old) Great sturgeon cultured in brackish water. Biometry of fishes, blood sampling from caudal vein was performed every three month and plasma was frozen until analyses. Glucose was measured with auto analyser, calcium and magnesium with spectrophotometer and sodium and potassium with film photometer, Hormone levels were measured by radio immunoassay (RIA). Histological preparation was stained with hematoxylin and eosin. In sex determination, result show that total length (L) and weight (W) had no significant elevation in different sexes and can not be used as an indicator sex determination. Among hormones only T had significant elevation, so it could be stated that level of T in immature Great sturgeon could be used to identify sex. In case of gonadic stage result show that total L and W just in male had significant correlation with gonadal stage and among hormones just T in male and C in female had significant correlation. So it could be concluded that in male and female respectively based on T and C measurment gonadic stage in immature Grate sturgeon could be identified

Study was conducted to investigate the effects of various energy levels on growth performance, food conversion ratio (FCR) and whole body composition in Gattan, Barbus xanthopterus fingerlings (12.12±0.28 g) for 8 week. Feeding trial was conducted using 3 semipurfied diets containing 3 levels of digestible energy (DE 2.5, 3 and 3.5 kcal/g) and same protein level 35%, in a flow-through system (1L/min) at 26.2 ± 0.460C. Triplicate groups of 15 fish (12.12±0.22 g) each, were stocked in 300-L circular polyethylene tanks and fish were fed to satiety thrice daily throughout the feeding trial. The best of total weight gain (146.67 g), FCR (2.21), protein efficiency ratio (1.31), apparent net protein utilization (ANPU%) (34.69) and condition factor (CF) (1.26) were observed in diet containing 3 kcal/g DE. The viscerosomatic index (VSI) and hepatosomatic index (HSI) did not show any significant difference between treatments (P>0.05). The final whole body moisture content decreased significantly with increasing energy levels in diets (P<0.05). Although whole body lipid and protein contents did not show significant variation among treatments (P>0.05), but the highest lipid and protein deposition were observed in diets containing 3.5 and 3kcal/g DE, respectively. Comparison between varying levels of dietary energy on the growth, feed utilization and whole body composition of Gattan indicated that 3 kcal g-1 DE could be the preferential dietary energy levels in fingerlings of this species.
